Google says ’11 percent more Nepalese are still at home’

Kathmandu. Google has been publishing reports from time to time on how the movement and activities of people in society are changing due to coronavirus (Covid-19). Google released a new ‘Community Mobility Report’ on Thursday, based on a study from last Tuesday. According to the report, the activities in the homes of Nepalis have not been completed yet. Compared to normal conditions, 11 percent of Nepalis are still at home. Activities in other areas are gradually becoming normal. But the excitement at home is still there.

According to Google’s report, the number of people visiting restaurants, cafés, shopping centers, museums, libraries, movie theaters and other places in Nepal is still 35 percent less than usual. However, compared to March, it has increased by 43 percent, according to Google. In March, activity at such locations had dropped by 78 percent.

Similarly, the activity of people in grocery, food, agricultural market, pharmacy, supermarket and other places is still 17 percent less. Activities in national parks, river banks, public gardens and other areas have been reduced by 21 percent. Similarly, activity in public transport, bus parks and other places has decreased from 74 percent to 36 percent compared to March. According to a Google report, 34 percent of people still do not show up at work. The number of people returning to the area, which was reduced by 72 percent in March, is gradually increasing. On this basis, Google concludes that 11 percent of people are still at home.

Artificial Intelligence(AI)

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. AI is an interdisciplinary science with multiple approaches, but advancements in machine learning and deep learning are creating a paradigm shift in virtually every sector of the tech industry.  “AI is a computer system able to perform tasks that ordinarily require human intelligence. Many of these artificial intelligence systems are powered by machine learning, some of them are powered by deep learning and some of them are powered by very boring things like rules.”

  • Smart assistants (like Siri and Alexa)
  • Disease mapping and prediction tools
  • Manufacturing and drone robots
  • Optimized, personalized healthcare treatment recommendations
  • Conversational bots for marketing and customer service
  • Robo-advisors for stock trading
  • Spam filters on email
  • Social media monitoring tools for dangerous content or false news
  • Song or TV show recommendations from Spotify and Netflix

Artificial intelligence generally falls under two broad categories:

1.Narrow Artificial Intelligence:-

Narrow AI is all around us and is easily the most successful realization of artificial intelligence to date. With its focus on performing specific tasks, Narrow AI has experienced numerous breakthroughs in the last decade that have had “significant societal benefits and have contributed to the economic vitality of the nation,” according to “Preparing for the Future of Artificial Intelligence,” a 2016 report released by the Obama Administration.

A few examples of Narrow AI include:

  • Google search
  • Image recognition software
  • Siri, Alexa and other personal assistants
  • Self-driving cars
  • IBM’s Watson

2.Artificial General Intelligence:-

The creation of a machine with human-level intelligence that can be applied to any task is the Holy Grail for many AI researchers, but the quest for AGI has been fraught with difficulty. AGI has long been the muse of dystopian science fiction, in which super-intelligent robots overrun humanity, but experts agree it’s not something we need to worry about anytime.

The virtual digital assistants have changed the way w do our daily tasks. Alexa and Siri have become like real humans we interact with each day for our every small and big need. The natural language abilities and the ability to learn themselves without human interference are the reasons they are developing so fast and becoming just like humans in their interaction only more intelligent and faster. AI makes every process better, faster, and more accurate. It has some very crucial applications too such as identifying and predicting fraudulent transactions, faster and accurate credit scoring, and automating manually intense data management practices. Artificial Intelligence improves the existing process across industries and applications and also helps in developing new solutions to problems that are overwhelming to deal with manually.
