The Global Positioning System (GPS) system will be connected within the current fiscal year to reduce accidents by managing public transport. The Department of Transport Management is preparing to sign an agreement after evaluating the bids.
Director General of the Department Gogan Bahadur Hamal said that work is underway with the aim of connecting GPS to public transport across the country in the current fiscal year. Stating that the bid evaluation has been completed, he said that an agreement is being reached.
According to him, the Nepali company will work on GPS connection in all public transport in a year. According to Hamal, he will work on software for six months and hardware in six months.
Initially, the department will test two / three hundred vehicles itself. After that, work will be done as per the agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB). For that, the department has started cooperation with ADB. The GPS hardware for public transport will have to be purchased by the owner. The market price is said to be five / six thousand rupees.
‘GPS and embossed number plates are interconnected. Although the application for the distribution of embossed number plates is currently open, it has been affected by the bandh, ‘said Director General Hamal. After the GPS connection, the speed, condition and location of the vehicle can be known and monitored. He claims that accidents will be reduced when GPS is connected.
He said that if the speed is high due to the high speed of the accident, the driver will get a message immediately. It is said that the drivers will be monitored and their behavior will be changed and action will be taken against them if they disobey. Similarly, information about the whereabouts of the vehicle will be obtained from GPS and a mobile app with GPS will be prepared so that passengers can also use it.
In which passengers can book tickets according to the place and route they are going to and see the condition of the vehicle or where the vehicle is.
