Windows 95 is 25 years old, that’s how it started

Time 25 years before today. People lined up at the United States’ largest computer retail store, Compa USA, and Best Buy at midnight. It wasn’t a Call of Duty game, Apple’s latest iPod, or any new hardware that these customers have been waiting for. It was actually a piece of software, Windows 95.

On August 24, 1995, Microsoft’s Windows 95 was released. It was made public with great expectations. The software was unveiled by Hollywood comedian Jay Leno, along with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

That day was a big celebration for Microsoft. Today, the start button that we press on the computer is called ‘Start Me Up’ and big advertisements are being broadcast on televisions.

The company created an hour-long cyber sitcom for Windows 95 with Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry. The Windows 95 software became so popular that it sold 7 million copies in its first five weeks.

Aside from the pomp and circumstance of the public ceremony, computer geeks were wondering what to choose between the Pentium and 486 processors, IDE and SCSI hard drives, double speed CD ROMs and sound blaster audio cards to get the most out of Windows 95. Microsoft had added many new features to the software.

But the biggest features were the new start button, menu, taskbar. These features made it easy to discover applications and navigate the operating system. Improving multitasking and graphical interfaces were the biggest leaps from Windows 3.1 and MS DOS to 95. But that interface was the same for Macintosh and OS / 2 users.

Not everything in Windows 95 is just a start button. Apart from the 32-bit OS (operating system), another important feature is that it also supports long filenames of more than 250 words.

Today it seems to be a basic feature of 2020, but at that time this feature made naming documents much easier. Another great feature is the plug and play. It automatically detects and installs the hardware. Plug and play have improved a lot in recent releases.

And that is the end of the topic: Windows 95 is 25 years old, that’s how it started

PUBG Mobile update: PUBG Mobile New State game may not be launched in India?

Published

on

After Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) game developers recently launched the official trailer of PUBG Mobile 2 or PUBG: New State, there were speculations on the return of PUBG Mobile India, which is banned in the country since September 2020 due privacy and national security concerns.

Besides that, the game was also listed on the Google Play Store for pre-registration, while the pre-order for the Apple App Store will be opening soon. The social media post about the announcement read, “Coming in 2021, PUBG: NEW STATE features the most realistic battle royale experience you will find on mobile. Players will be able to drop in and explore a new map that expands the lore, experience graphics that push the limits of mobile gaming, master the best and most dynamic gunplay on the market, and enjoy next-generation survival features that evolve the battlegrounds.”

However, now it looks like the game isn’t going to come back anytime soon. The social media post about the announcement read, “Coming in 2021, PUBG: NEW STATE features the most realistic battle royale experience you will find on mobile. Players will be able to drop in and explore a new map that expands the lore, experience graphics that push the limits of mobile gaming, master the best and most dynamic gunplay on the market, and enjoy next-generation survival features that evolve the battlegrounds.” However, this is not for Indian users as the game is banned in the country. When they visit the game’s page on the Google Play Store, they will receive an error.
